Voice actor James Carter Cathcart, who was well-known for his role in “Pokémon,” has passed away.
According to a family member, James passed away on Tuesday following a protracted fight with throat cancer. According to reports, he passed away in Forest Hills, New York, under hospice care.

James used his voice to give life to a number of characters on “Pokémon,” including James from Team Rocket, Professor Oak, Meowth, and Gary Oak.
Because he voiced Vector the Crocodile in “Sonic X” and the video game “Shadow the Hedgehog,” he was also well-known among “Sonic” fans.

After completing his work on the English dub of “Pokémon: Ultimate Journeys,” James retired from voice acting after receiving a throat cancer diagnosis in 2023. His initial treatments didn’t work, and he required more intensive chemotherapy.
According to fellow voice actor Erica Schroeder, James was “one of the most joyful, exuberant, kind-hearted and talented souls… one of a kind, a gentle, beautiful, playful genius… master of the pen, piano and microphone.”
