In America, there is a lot of debate about guns. When it comes to guns, there is no simple “for” or “against.” While those who are “for” may feel that there are some situations in which carrying a gun is improper, even those who are “against” may think that some occupations should continue to have them.
This leads us to the relevant sign. Some people may not feel comfortable sitting next to an armed stranger in public, even if they profess to support the Second Amendment and the exercise of those rights. Those of us who have our own firearms holstered on our bodies but out of sight then applaud this sign.
Yes, “Guns Welcome” signs are what we’re referring to. The Washington Times estimates that 57,000 new businesses have opened in the US with signs like “Guns Welcome” on their front doors. Of course, some people support such sentiments, but not everyone shares that notion.
Gun control organizations like Moms Demand Action, on the other hand, have only recently succeeded in getting a few large chain stores, such as Target, Chipotle, Jack in the Box, Starbucks, Chili’s, and Sonic, to prohibit firearms on their property.
The “guns welcome” sign is probably irrelevant depending on where you live because it isn’t necessary. Rather, state law determines whether or not a business posts a sign stating that firearms are “allowed” on its property.
Except for Maine, North Dakota, and Illinois, which outright forbid firearms in dining establishments or any business that derives more than half of its revenue from alcohol, the majority of states in the union permit their citizens to carry firearms at all times.
Georgia, on the other hand, has very lax laws that permit guns in restaurants and bars. At the time Governor Nathan Deal signed it, the law was among the most comprehensive pro-gun legislation in the nation.
“Guns Welcome” goes well with Shooters Grill’s theme.
In contrast, a restaurant in Rifle, Colorado, has a dress code that mandates waitresses wear weapons strapped to their bodies. Additionally, customers travel hundreds of miles to the restaurant to watch the waitresses pack heat in addition to enjoying the burgers. They have found success with their choice to have their staff members carry open carry.
“Shooters” owner Lauren Boebert claims that she doesn’t feel completely dressed until she fastens her loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun. For my own safety, I wanted to start carrying. I didn’t see anything wrong with that because this is my establishment,” she said. “So I started to open carry.”
It’s not in other places, even though it’s fairly evident that people carry at establishments like Shooters Grill. To be honest, it doesn’t really matter if you believe that patrons should leave their weapons at home or if you believe that restaurants and other establishments should be more accepting of firearms and encourage their customers to enter and eat armed.
Gun Signs
A law-abiding holder of a concealed carry permit ultimately doesn’t need a “welcome sign,” so they won’t search for one. More times than you can count, you have likely stood directly next to a customer who was armed without realizing it. People who carry concealed weapons don’t usually promote it.
It is not necessary to have a posted sign permitting others to carry concealed, even though gun owners may prefer to feel accepted and choose to support a company that shares their values by spending their money there. You are probably as likely to run into someone carrying concealed at a place that doesn’t post welcome signs as you are at one that does, unless it is specifically prohibited. Furthermore, it appears that in this instance, ignorance has not harmed you.
