There are TikTok videos going viral showing people using the fast food restaurant as what some have called the “McMigraine” remedy.

A drive-thru patron states in one widely shared video: “I’ve had a headache for 48 hours and TikTok said it would help.”

Usually, a side of French fries and a particularly large Coca-Cola are taking as part of the do-it-yourself treatment in an attempt to alleviate migraine symptoms.

“There is some science as to why it works,” Milwaukee-based family doctor Dr. Brintha Vasagar tells Fox News Digital.

Coca-Cola’s caffeine might mimic the active ingredient in some over-the-counter migraine medications.

The doctor points out that the majority of over-the-counter migraine remedies may contain caffeine in their formulations.

By narrowing blood vessels, caffeine can lessen the throbbing pain associated with migraines.

Carbonation can also help with nausea, which is a common side effect of migraines.

Fries’ salt content may aid in improving hydration and replacing lost electrolytes, two factors that may cause headaches.

“The fries’ carbohydrates can also help settle the stomach,” Vasagar continues.

Comfort food can have psychological effects in addition to physiological ones.

According to Vasagar, “McDonald’s and fast food are nostalgic for a lot of us.” It’s the sensation that “this will be reassuring and help me feel better.”

“Remain hydrated. “Think about consuming a small amount of caffeine, perhaps in the form of green tea or matcha,” she suggests.

She contends that these choices offer advantages without the drawbacks of too much sugar, sodium, or bad fats.
