US President Donald Trump Could Get Removed from One Rule Never Used Before

An unprecedented legal provision could impact Donald Trump’s presidency, drawing renewed attention to constitutional mechanisms.

A political commentator has urged Vice President JD Vance to consider invoking an unprecedented legal mechanism to remove Donald Trump from the presidency.

The former businessman-turned-politician has long been regarded as one of the most polarizing figures in American political history. Recent developments, including renewed attention surrounding the Epstein files and his decisions related to the ongoing tensions involving Iran, have further intensified public debate.

In 2019, Trump made history by becoming the first U.S. president to be impeached, following allegations that he sought foreign assistance to influence the 2020 election.

According to a whistleblower complaint, Trump held a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, during which he was accused of encouraging an investigation into Joe Biden, who was then a leading presidential candidate.

More recently, the 79-year-old has sparked global reactions after authorizing coordinated military strikes alongside Israelagainst Iran, an action that has led to renewed calls from critics for his removal from office.

JD Vance urged to try and remove Donald Trump as president

A conservative commentator has called on Vice President JD Vance to consider invoking a never-before-used legal mechanism in an effort to remove Donald Trump from office.

Scott McConnell, co-founder of The American Conservative, has drawn attention for publicly criticizing Trump despite his right-leaning views, particularly over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a post on X, McConnell wrote: “My advice to Vance: Announce your support of the 25th Amendment transition.”

He continued by suggesting a potential bipartisan approach: “Say Chris Murphy or similar will be vice president. Announce you will not be a candidate in 2028. Use your position and access to the media to explain why this is necessary. Don’t resign.”

McConnell also argued that Murphy could be a strong choice due to his anti-war stance, describing him as “smart and not super woke.”

In a follow-up post, McConnell criticized Trump’s decision-making, claiming the former president relied on questionable intelligence linked to Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Trump, ignoring his own intelligence agencies, lapped it up,” he wrote.

He further expressed concern about the broader implications of those actions, adding to an increasingly heated political debate.

What is the 25th Amendment and how does it work

In his message, McConnell specifically referenced the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which outlines the procedures to follow if a U.S. president dies, resigns, is removed, or becomes unable to carry out the duties of the office.

The amendment was introduced following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, aiming to ensure a clear line of succession and continuity of leadership. While parts of it have been used—for example, during temporary transfers of power—it has never been invoked to remove a sitting president against their will.

Section 4 of the amendment addresses situations where a president is deemed unable to perform their duties but refuses to step aside. In such a case, the vice president, together with a majority of the Cabinet, can formally declare the president unfit for office.

If JD Vance were to pursue this route with Cabinet support, he would submit a written declaration to Congress and immediately assume the role of acting president.

However, the president—in this case Donald Trump—would have the right to contest the decision, triggering a vote in Congress to determine the outcome.

Iran wants to deal with JD Vance directly

The renewed focus on Vance comes after Iran reportedly indicated a preference to engage directly with the vice president in diplomatic discussions.

Vance, a former U.S. Marine who served in the Iraq War, including a deployment to Iraq in 2005, is known for his more cautious stance on foreign military interventions. His background has positioned him as a potential figure in efforts to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran.

Despite Iran’s reported preference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the final decision on negotiations rests solely with Trump.

“President Trump and President Trump alone decides who negotiates on his behalf,” she said, adding that Vance, along with other senior officials, would be involved in discussions.

US ‘negotiating with itself’ according to Iran

Trump recently claimed that “strong” talks were underway regarding a potential ceasefire with Iran, but officials in the region have pushed back on that assertion.

Reza Amiri Moghadam, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, stated there have been “no direct or indirect negotiations” between the two countries, according to Iranian state media.

While Trump has suggested he is “talking to the right people” and that Iran is eager to reach a deal, Iranian officials have dismissed those claims, with one spokesperson reportedly stating that the United States is “negotiating with itself.”

As tensions continue to rise and political pressure builds, questions surrounding leadership, constitutional powers, and international diplomacy remain firmly in the spotlight. Whether these calls carry real political weight or remain part of a broader public debate, the situation highlights the growing divisions shaping both U.S. politics and global relations.
