Mother sees in the ultrasound “God’s hand” holding her baby’s head gently

In what some are referring to as a contemporary miracle, a mother from Kentucky claims that an ultrasound image shows that the "hand of God" touched her unborn child.

Amanda Foster, now 33, shared an ultrasound image of her unborn son Jay on Facebook in April 2022, stating that he had “healthy kidneys, no cysts, and perfect blood flow to and from.”

The Cleveland Clinic defines Potter syndrome as a “rare condition that affects the growth and function of a baby’s kidneys and other internal organs,” which can be fatal and shorten an infant’s life expectancy. She also mentioned that her son was “Potter syndrome free.”

“More prevalent in men”

After Foster lost her first son at just 20 weeks of pregnancy, she developed a fear of Potter syndrome at the age of 17.

“Well, if God is going to take my son, He will take me too,” I thought at the time. In a Facebook post, Foster recalled the sorrow she felt after losing her first son, Xavier. That was not how things turned out, and I became very angry and resentful of God. As if that weren’t enough, I was later informed that because Potter syndrome is more common in men, it was highly unlikely that I would ever have a healthy baby boy.

After having two healthy daughters, Foster and her husband Kyle welcomed their first son, Jay, in August 2022.

“Support Kyler”

Foster is currently expecting a second child, a boy they have named Kyler. However, this time, early scans found a potentially fatal aortic septum anomaly, a serious heart defect.

Foster wrote in a Facebook post prior to her high-risk scan in late May that “each time before ultrasounds I’ve dropped to my knees right in the doctor’s office to pray over Kyler.”

“I have repeatedly prayed for him, asking the Lord to keep his hand on my child and to help me fully trust in whatever plan he may have.”

“Hand” on her child

In an attempt to reduce the anxiety she had experienced during her pregnancy, Foster brought her daughter Bailey to her appointment. However, Bailey’s nerves were swiftly replaced by awe at what she saw on the screen.

In a Facebook post that went viral, she wrote, “My youngest daughter Bailey was the first to notice that I had an ultrasound yesterday and asked me whose hand that was.” She described what looks to be a giant hand holding Kyler’s head in addition to a black-and-white ultrasound image. “It looks like a hand is holding his head in one of his photos,” she continued.

Foster claimed that the sight brought her to “tears” because of “all [God] has and continues to do for me.” And I could never imagine my life without [God]!

‘Chunky boy’

Foster announced on social media that her baby weighed more than seven pounds at 36 weeks on June 20.

“Our chunky boy is going to be the biggest baby I’ve ever had,” she wrote. They kept an eye on his practice breathing today. His total measurements are one and a half weeks ahead of schedule. Today, his heart rate was 132. I can’t wait to hold him in my arms because of his adorable little face!

The ultrasound is much more than just a medical scan to Amanda Foster. It serves as a potent reminder that healing is possible even after going through heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty.
