At approximately 12:10 p.m. MDT, Kirk, 31, was giving a speech during the opening stop of his “American Comeback Tour” when the incident took place.
One shot suddenly rang out as he was answering a question about mass shootings. There was instant chaos as guests rushed for cover after the bullet hit him in the neck.
Security swiftly removed Kirk from the scene and took him to a hospital. Authorities later verified that he passed away from his wounds.
According to investigators, the Losee Center building on campus is most likely the source of the gunfire, which came from a rooftop 180–200 yards away.
Initially reporting a suspect in custody, law enforcement later clarified that no one was still in custody. The current widespread manhunt involves several agencies, including the FBI and ATF.

Kirk shared a picture of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who suffered a fatal stabbing on a Charlotte light rail train, and added the caption, “America will never be the same.” This post has since gone viral.
Reactions and Mourning
Close ally and former president Donald Trump lamented Kirk’s passing on Truth Social, writing, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead…” In his honor, flags have been ordered to fly at half-staff across the United States.
Various political figures, including Mike Johnson, Gavin Newsom, JD Vance, and others, denounced the act and demanded an end to political violence. The House of Representatives observed a moment of silence.
This murder, according to observers, underscores a troubling increase in political violence in the United States, a concerning trend that calls into question the country’s values of safety and polite discourse.
