According to police in Indiana, a school secretary was arrested after her husband reportedly walked in and found her in bed with an 18-year-old student.
Officers from the Union City Police Department were first called to the scene after reports of what was described as a possible domestic battery. In a statement shared on Facebook, the department said law enforcement had been notified about an alleged incident that took place overnight.

Investigation Reveals New Details After Husband’s Confrontation
As officers continued looking into the complaint, more details about the situation began to emerge. Investigators learned that Hughes’ husband had allegedly discovered her with an 18-year-old student from Randolph Eastern School Corporation and confronted them.
During that confrontation, authorities say Hughes was reportedly involved in an altercation. Officials added that the alleged battery from that incident is now being investigated by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
It remains unclear whether Hughes’ husband could face any charges related to the reported confrontation.
As the investigation continued, police said they uncovered additional allegations involving another student. Investigators stated that Hughes had also been involved in a sexual relationship with a different high school student who was 17 at the time.
During questioning about her involvement with the 18-year-old, the 31-year-old admitted she had sexual relations with him on three occasions, maintaining that it did not happen before he turned 18.
Footage from her police interview, obtained by Law&Crime, shows her acknowledging that the relationship had been going on since the end of January. She also told investigators that the encounter they were discussing was the third time she had been with him.
When speaking about her actions, Hughes told investigators she had no real explanation for her behavior. She said she had been struggling in her marriage and admitted she was seeking attention during a difficult time in her personal life.
Secretary Arrested and Facing Multiple Charges
When investigators asked whether she had been involved with any other students, Hughes repeatedly denied it. However, court affidavits cited by Law&Crime state that a 17-year-old claimed the two had sex five times, including once at a Dollar General store.
“I have met him, but I never slept with him,” Hughes can be heard saying in the recording. “I hung out with him…not for very long.”
She did admit to sending the teen photos but continued to deny any sexual contact. As investigators pressed further about how their relationship began, she eventually said, “I think I’ll need my lawyer at this point.”
Hughes was then arrested during the interview. She now faces five counts of child seduction connected to the allegations involving the 17-year-old. Each charge carries a potential sentence of up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
After her arrest, she was booked into the Randolph County Jail with bond set at $25,000 cash.
The New York Post reported that her initial court appearance, which had been scheduled for February 20, was canceled. A judge later ruled there was probable cause to move forward with the case, setting a new hearing for April 15, a pre-trial conference for April 16, and a jury trial for June 15.
Randolph Eastern School Corporation superintendent Neal Adams confirmed that Hughes has been removed from all duties involving students while the legal process continues.
Authorities also commended the school district for cooperating quickly and being transparent as the investigation remains ongoing.
As the case moves through the legal system, authorities say the investigation is still ongoing and additional details could emerge in the coming months.
